Mrs. Guthmiller's 3rd Grade Class

Hello, Thank you for visiting my page. My name is JoAnn Guthmiller. I was born and raised in Owatonna, MN, and graduated from high school in 1981. I attended Mankato State University and graduated in 1985 with a BS degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Kindergarten. I was hired at Lyle Public School in 1986, and have been here ever since. I met my husband, Jim, the first year we were teachers and married in 1988. He now is a science teacher at Southland School in Adams. MN. I have a daughter and a son. I enjoy reading, knitting, being with my two dogs, Hunny and Emma, and spending time at the cabin in northern MN.

Overview of Classes

Reading/Language Arts:    3rd grade students will be using Daily 5, Cafe, and Study Island in Reading.  The Daily 5 consists of:  Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, Read to Someone, and Listen to Reading.  The Cafe portion of reading helps build strategies for reading, and we will be using Study Island to work on individual skills needed.  The 3rd grade will also be learning about sentence structure, nouns and verbs.

Math: ---The 3 grade will use the MY Math Curriculum and Study Island.

Handwriting: Cursive writing will be introduced and practiced in the 3rd grade.

Social Studies/ Science:

Snack/Milk Break: The 3rd graders will have milk break every day where they can buy a white milk, chocolate milk, apple juice or orange juice. The price of the milk/juice is not taken care of with free or reduced lunch.  If your child wishes to bring in a snack that is fine.  Lyle school asks that the snack be nutritious.

Field Trips: You will be notified prior to any field trips. We may however take walks around the town of Lyle as a reward or beak. (weather permitting)
